Learning Bisaya, LISOD!
Bisaya - thats what they call a person who speak Cebuano and grew up in Visayas or has a Visayan decendants, Cebuano is a dialect of different provinces in Visayas and in Mindanao.
I admit as a person who grew up in Metro Manila I find it too hard to learn bisaya and I wanna quit, lol! Well being married to a bisaya for seven years now is really really really hard for me. Just imagine everytime there will be an affair like birthdays, weddings, reunions or even only a visit of his relative in our house would be a big stressful experience for me. Yes I want to learn, yes I tried, yes I understand a little but you know specially if you know how to speak bisaya I know you know what I mean. When his relative talked too fast bisaya and when they do that I get lost, just imagine that and I just ended up nodding.
My husband really wants me to learn it, I tried. I learned and understand it but only a word per second please, lol! But you know when I am reading text messages from his family in Ozamiz, I understand everything but when conversing, no. I dunno what is my problem, maybe just the speed, hehehe. I was once advised by my friend to learn it to know if they are cursing or swearing me already or what, lol! But you know the first words that I asked my husband are all the bad words, so it wont escape my ear, lol!
I just want to share to you what I learned today:
what are you doing? - unsay imong gibuhat?
is it flooding there? - gabaha ba diha?
im leaving - lakaw sa’ko
and too many more that I wish I will remember everytime I needed it, lol!

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new. Welcome to my index page, my more personal page than my slash blog page, lol!

You’re learning quick, Sis! hehe! I am from Mindanao and my father is Cebuano, and majority of the people here in our city speak Cebuanos. But we speak Tagalog at church. I can speak both fluently.

In my old job in the NGO world, we used to run trainings all over the country. I found that hindi naman mahirap maintindihan at matutunan ang bisaya as long as within a certain context. Pero syempre, outside of the training, medyo mas mahirap na ngang makaintindi.

LOL… I’m from Negros, and I studied college in Cebu. The first time I rode a bus going to Cebu, I was amused with how the cebuanos talk to each other like they’re having a fight or argument… later I learned, it’s just the tone and the way they speak which is so different from the soft-spoken Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) dialect we have.
Anyway, I had to survive my first years of college in Cebu, so I kept a notebook with a list of cebuano terms especially the slangs. It helps to practice it even if you’re not that confident. I unknowingly used one bisaya word to sound like a pro and my boardmate laughingly told me it’s a swear word.
Just keep on practicing your bisaya! It may sound funny at the start but later on, you’ll be fluent in it soon!
ayo ayo!

I should maybe start carrying a notebook soon too sis hehe what is hard with speaking bisaya is the word here, there, tomorrow, now, later, again (diri, didto, ugma, karon, unya, utro) sometimes i switch all those stuff when conversing. LoL!
one incident happened is i supposed to answer ugma but i said unya so they ended up showing in our house that day when it is still tomorrow, LOL!
