More Filipino Citizenship
Former Filipino citizens who have reacquired their Filipino citizenship have reached more than 43,000 in the past three years under the dual citizenship law.
The Bureau of Immigration revealed that about 28,400 applications for dual citizenship have been approved in various Philippine consulates abroad while about 14,479 were processed at the Bureau of Immigration at the main office in Manila.
Most applicants for Filipino citizenship are Fil-American citizens, some are Fil-Canadians and Fil-Australians.
As a result, these former Pinoys are again enjoying their rights and privileges as citizens of the Philippines.
Back in 2003 when Congress passed the Dual Citizenship law in which states, that former natural-born Filipinos who later became naturalized citizens of other countries have not lost their Philippine citizenship.
This law encourages former Filipinos who are now living abroad to return to the land of their birth and buy property or invest in business in the Philippines. The BI technical staff on dual citizenship said that they have received an average of 15 applications for dual citizenship per day.
Under the revised rules, an applicant for dual citizenship is no longer obliged to submit birth certificate from the National Statistics Office to prove that they were former natural-born Filipinos. But an applicant may submit their birth certificates from the local civil registrars of their birthplace and other documents, such as old Philippine passport, marriage contract and voter’s affidavit, proving that he is a former natural-born Filipino.
The Department of Foreign Affairs regularly transmits to the BI the list and records of approved dual citizenship applicants so that the latter may secure their identification certificates and leave their fingerprint files with the bureau once they visit the Philippines.
I Say. This is really a great option for Filipinos who want to gain their Filipino nationality back and enjoy the rights and privileges that comes along with it. This is also a great chance for them to invest in their homeland, the Philippines. I know that Filipinos all over the world, whether they are now Americans, Canadians, Germans or Australians, I believe that deep inside their hearts part of them is still Filipino.![]()

clearly, this law was paseed with economics in mind more than anything else, investments in particular. and its working, judging from the infusion of balikbayan capital into our real estate sector. this is for pinoys who want to have their cake and eat it too. american citzen na, pinoy pa! he he.
pero kung tutuusin, dami na dual citizens sa bansa natin. mga half filipino, half filipina! ha ha.
