joanjoyce, the dofollow attribute is the characteristic of a link (like a commentator on leaves on your post) to be followed of indexed by search engines like google. it instructs search engines to “follow” the links so the source may be indexed as well, not just the website where it is posted. in the nofollow attribute, the link stays within the site it is posted only. search engines will not follow or index the links, hence, a credit to the link’s website/owner will not be given.
