Playboy Magazine Philippine Edition
Philippines got a Playboy franchise when it is internationally fading into the world’s circulation and with competitors like FHM and Maxim around, can they play it fairly or topped the said magazines?
Playboy was first started in the United States back in 1953. Marilyn Monroe was the first to appear on their centerfold on its first issue. It became popular worldwide during the 70’s and many countries franchised to publish their local versions.
Next month, Playboy Magazine Philippine Edition is scheduled to be launched on April 2 at Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City. We will now see it beside FHM and Maxim on our local bookstore and magazine shops.
But do these Playboy Magazine Philippine Edition show nudity?
Playboy editor-in-chief Beting Laygo Dolor clarifies that there will be no nudity in the local edition. It’s a lifestyle magazine for mature, successful men and women. No, Playboy Philippines will not be more daring than FHM. We will be adjusted to the local culture and sensibilities. Our market is different from FHM or Maxim.
Dolor even brag about his writers, that all of them are Palanca Awardees and that the Playboy Philippines maybe different because it wouldn’t be known for just making interviews but making a great article.
Being daring doesn’t dictate the success of men’s magazines in the Philippines.Our first issue will make clear what we are about. It will be a good read.

if i’m blogging from the Phils i might consider purchasing their first topic..after such press release, i’ll be curious on how the magazine shows a different strategy (as compared to local like magazines)..but as far as i know, FHM is really doing good..its not just men whose buying such magazine in the Phils..as well as women…

im not a magazine fan so i won’t. but i will read it out of curiousity. parang it’s a sacrilege to playboy if the phil edition isn’t going to be “more daring than FHM”, or if it’s not going to live up to its name. the playboy brand has been known to draw readers for their ‘content’, you know, so what’s up with the lifestyle format diba?
im not saying naman that they should go all out. but im really wondering if playboy will have a big market here. they’re going to have quite a challenge with their branding if it’s going to fail in that category. because as far as i know, playboy is (or should be?) hotter than FHM.

hmmm… the name “playboy” is not by itself discreet. no wonder it is already fading. and the word’s reputation itself had long lost its reputation.. it’s a bad name to reckon about.

I agree with joanjoyce… The name itself will spark controversy among our countrymen. But I believe it would be at par with FHM, just no nudity involved to attract models and celebrities to pose for the magazine.

playboy without nudity is stupidity!!..how come walang nude dapat mag sara nlang sila kung ganyan pa playboy-playboy pa sila dito kalukuhan.I wouldn’t pay 200 bucks for a magazine like playboy without nude.please show us more skin if you want your mag to sellout..skin sells hindi naman bastos ang nude basta hindi lang masyadong malaswa..id rather buy fhm which shows more skin than this poser mag they just deceiving people,fuck moralists.

Playboy Philippines is much more than a BOO… it is a insult to the Playboy editions worldwide.
Dalisay and Yuson and the other Palanca award winners are excellent writers… excellent but boring. pretty much like their newpaper columns. there’s just no way that they can catch the attention of magazine readers. as i’ve mentioned in other blogs and sites… Beting has formed a dream team… for a NEWSPAPER! they are entering a genre which they cannot possibly comprehend. they are dependent on words… a magazine is not a newspaper… magazines depend heavily on visuals. which none of the editorial team of Playboy… and their useless Palanca writers have. you cannot teach a geriatric dog new tricks. Dolor, Yuson, Dalisay, and the rest are not even willing to embrace this. how can they possibly succeed?
And the publisher is more concerned about acquiring the Playboy Casino. he does not give a damn about the magazine. At least Gokongwei of Summit and Lopez of Abs-Cbn pub are conscious about the quality of their mags. Mr. Ku… just simply… doesn’t care. that’s why it’s ok for Playboy Philippines to look like crap… as long as he can hold on and wait for Playboy international to foolishly give him the casino franchise… he’s happy.
but you have to give it to the Playboy Philippines people. they are a hardy bunch. i guess for people like Krip Yuson… this is his last stab at fame and fortune. and for people like Beting Dolor… he’s just too old to do anything else. pretty much like their magazine… it is a desperate attempt.

Wow, FHM a jologs publication? The word classy is quite relative, looking at playboy’s first issue is classy if it were published in the 60’s! palanca award winners does not make a playboy magazine….something else maybe but not playboy, if fhm is for people who live in shanties, where do people who read playboy live?

Priscilla hated the original “Black Mamba Team” that did the photography. it was just a bunch of “feeling-photographer-fellows” who thought that they were good enough to do a magazine shoot.
But they were idiots and Priscilla was super disappointed. she specifically fixed up the famous SECOND SHOOT (on her own! go girl!) with a better and competent and REAL team. she told the staff of Playboy Philippines not to use any of the shots from the first shoot. but lo and behold… they still used the cooking magazine cover option. She was really pissed but gave up.
Poor Priscilla.

me and my friends saw a copy of the 2nd Playboy Philippines…
much better! i guess Beting & friends finally got their act together.
cover girl is Raquel Gibson. one of the Fil-Am international covergirls before. thank god the cover is finally a full body shot! it’s a shot of her on a bangka SS Raquel. much better.
although i still didn’t buy it… so i have no idea how the inside looks like. anybody out there seen the inside?

Apparently Mr. Ku the financier/publisher was bitchslapped by Playboy International.
That’s why the second issue (well the cover at least) is looking a million times better.
Also the current editor in chief, Beting Dolor will “resign” soon. Supposedly he won’t last beyond June or July of 2008.
Maybe the Hef though it was time to let the old dog go. HAHA!
