Boston Celtics Coach To Train RP Players for NBA
Clifford Ray offers potential Philippine Basketball Players to be trained under the National Basketball Development League where they can have the chance be spotted to play in the NBA.
It would be like a sentimental homecoming for me, I made many Filipino friends when I went over with the Walt Frazier group in 1975 and with Raymond Townsend in 1980. I saw a lot of basketball talent back then, like Bogs Adornado and Atoy Co. I’d be interested to find out if there are young Filipino players like them right now, said Ray.
Ray was an assistant coach at Orlando, Dallas, New Jersey, Golden State and Cleveland before joining the Boston Celtics last two years ago.
There aren’t too many big Filipinos who could play four or five in the NBA so I’ll be on the lookout for quick guards and small forwards,” he said. “I could also set up a camp for big men. I run a big man’s camp with Robert Parish every summer in Florida. They don’t have to be real big. I can work with undersized centers and teach them post moves.
I hope Clifford Ray can produce a Filipino NBA Star soon. I really want to see Pinoy represent on NBA. Wonder what happen to Abarrientos? I thought he’ll be the first?
