Pinoy Can Do It Too!

In 2007 saw the launch of I’m Not A Plastic Bag in collaboration with the global social change movement We Are What We Do. Anya wanted to use her influence in a positive way make it fashionable not to use plastic bags. The limited edition canvas totes sold for just £5. These bags have been seen on the arms of celebrities including Jessica Biel, Reese Witherspoon and Keira Knightley and were selected by vanity fair to be included in the Oscar goodie bags. I’m Not A Plastic Bag launched in four limited edition colours around the world. Thousands of customers queued to try to get their hands on this cult bag and it sold out in hours when it launched at Anya Hindmarch stores and leading boutiques including Colette in Paris, Dover Street Market in London, Corso Como in Milan, Isetan in Japan and Ron Herman in LA. In the UK and the US I’m Not A Plastic Bag was also sold through Sainsbury’s and Whole Foods Markets. 100,000 customers registered online to try to buy I’m Not A Plastic Bag.
AND who said only the BRITISH knows how to do that? Filipino CAN!
Through Ichay Bulaong and her Luntian Bags I can now do some good things for Mother Earth and for the Philippines and still in fashion. She says,
Luntian Bags are reusable bags made of canvas that come in different designs and sizes. The purpose of the bags is to help reduce plastic bag pollution by using reusable bags instead of wasting plastic ones. These bags are stylish, earth-friendly and carry a message. So for your next trip to the grocery or mall, B.Y.O.B.
What got Inchay started? She says,
“Last April, I read this Time article and the numbers stunned me — ‘Every year, more than 500 billion plastic bags are distributed, and less than 3% of those bags are recycled. They are typically made of polyethylene and can take up to 1,000 years to biodegrade in landfills that emit harmful greenhouse gases.’”“More than the numbers, however, my main takeaway was that we (normal people and not scientists or radical activists) can do something about it — ‘Reducing your contribution to plastic-bag pollution is as simple as using a cloth bag (or one made of biodegradable plant-based materials) instead of wasting plastic ones. For your next trip to the grocery store, BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag).’ Hmmmm, I can do that. And maybe I can get other people to do it, too.”
“My family and I have a weekend home in San Teodoro, Mabini, Batangas, and my husband and I have always wanted to do something for this wonderful community. So with the BYOB idea in my head, next thought bubble was: Why not have the bags made in San Teodoro?”
And thus, Luntian Bags was born.
Luntian Bags comes in, with several designs with 2 sizes available, the regular size and large size, with the price of 100-110 pesos only.
What a steal???……
