The Los Angeles Police Department is trying to figure out of who really owns the 840 pound emerald from bahia Brazil. This $400 million Brazilian emerald had been reported stolen in September 2008 but it was found by December in Las Vegas.

The owner is still a mystery but there have been at least five people claim to own the 840 Pound Emerald From Bahia Brazil. The giant emerald is currently locked in until authorities can determine the real owner.

Reports said that it was reported missing by Larry Biegler, a gem broker and commercial real estate investor had been keeping this emerald in a warehouse but investigators said that it had been determined to be in the possession of two businessmen that were trying to sell the emerald namely, Kit Morrison and Todd Armstrong. They said that the emerald should rightfully belongs to them because Biegler failed to give them the diamonds he had promised to deliver and put up the emerald as their collateral.

The emerald has been in the hands of Ken Conetto, who shipped the emerald to New Orleans for a prospect buyer but in the warehouse were he stored the emerald got affected by high floods due to hurricane Katrina. So Conetto approached Biegler to help him sell the gem but Biegler took the stone as collateral after Conetto failed to pay him for his work and Conetto denies that and still claim the emerald is still his.

The 5th man is a California gem trader named Anthony Thomas, he said he purchased it for $60,000 from a group of nefarious, a Brazilians in 2001 so he claimed the ownership of the gem.
